How many people in work were born outside the UK, and how that mix has shifted.
Born outside the UK
Labour Force Survey, UK: people aged 16 and over in employment, by country of birth, not seasonally adjusted, the same quarter each year. The total includes people who did not state a country of birth. Response fell again from mid-2023, so recent figures are volatile. Official statistics, not accredited. Counts people in work, not arrivals.
Share of people in work born outside the UK
EU and beyond
People aged 16 and over in work, UK, by country of birth. EU means the current 27 member states in every year; non-EU born means born outside both the UK and the EU. ONS stopped publishing finer breakdowns after 2019, so only these two groups are shown. Year-to-year moves are noisy; the same survey cautions apply. The figures count people in work, not jobs filled or taken.

The rate gap
Employment rate: people in work as a share of all people aged 16 to 64 in each country-of-birth group, UK. Rates use ages 16 to 64; the counts above use 16 and over. The chart's axis does not start at zero. Same survey cautions as above.

Born abroad, or not British
Country of birth is where a person was born; nationality is the one they state in the survey. People aged 16 and over in work, UK. Same survey cautions as above.
